press releases Response to hosepipe ban speculation: 3 April 2006 04/04/2006
Following stories in the national media about water shortages and hosepipe bans, Anglian Water wishes to confirm the situation for those customers served by the company: - Anglian Water does not anticipate a hosepipe ban, but stresses the importance of using water wisely
- although rainfall for the winter period was lower than expected, all reservoirs are between 80 and 96 per cent full
- groundwater recharge has been slow due to the low winter rainfall.

Collette Nicholls, Media Manager at Anglian Water, said: “There has been a slow but steady refill of our reservoirs, which are now all at or well above 80 per cent full. This has been achieved by increasing the amount of water pumped into the reservoirs during the winter months, capturing the high river flows that come after rainfall. “Most of our groundwaters (reserves underground in the chalk, sandstone or limestone) have shown a slow recharge over the winter. Some are below average for this time of year but are recovering slowly and are not at levels that are causing us concern.
